Mac is probably less bad than Microsoft, but it's way too pricey for what you get. I have also heard that Linux isn't really an option for laptops, although that may have changed by now. Tax preparation s/w comes immediately to mind, and I imagine that print drivers are still a problem, too. The answer truly would be Linux, except that there are many useful programs taht are not Linux-compatible.
